Contrary to all the grand proposals
(Ongoing work), 2024 - present

This ongoing sculpture series Contrary to all the grand proposals focuses on the effects of flooding on our aging infrastructure in the subway system and along New York's waterways. The hinged metallic screenprinted sculptures reference access panels found throughout subway platforms. Their eroding screen printed imagery of shorelines, sturgeon fish and flooding maps relate to the loss of material history at flooding sites. While, sculptures of bulkhead barriers with images sourced from the Vermont Black Ash Inventory on iNaturalist highlight how important they are for flooding mitigation, even as they are threatened by the emerald ash borer. Through sculpture, printmaking and photography, my work reorients our understanding of our environment and environmental harms as a way to engage with a future that reconnects humans and nature.
