Sugar House
Sugar House juxtaposes Google reviews of detention facilities in New York City with images of their surrounding areas. Rhinelander’s Sugar House, originally a storehouse, was used as a prison by the British during the Revolutionary War to hold American prisoners in Lower Manhattan. It’s barred windows can still be seen today. This work questions the accuracy of perception, online and first-hand.
